Who?

The Islands of Who

I’m Mark Chitty, a Product Manager of seven years, Software Engineer for twelve.

As an agentic builder, I use AI tooling across my product work: to prototype quickly, build mobile apps and bring to life ideas that would otherwise take an unfeasible amount of time (such as this website).

Find me on LinkedIn and X, or take a look at my projects on GitHub.

Why?

The Mountain of Why

Why do we build, if not to fulfil a need? To effect change, to educate or to empower. There are mountains of reasons, and the role of Product is to find the peak, the summit which drives the expedition. I always strive to start with the ‘Why?’. Building is easier when you know why.

How?

The Jungle of How

The tools for discovering the ‘why’ are many and varied. Data and analytics have their place, but they can’t replace talking to the people with a problem in need of a solution. Discovery helps us plot a path through the jungle of options.

I use research, behavioural data and domain knowledge to identify opportunities, test assumptions and reduce uncertainty. Evidence from delivery and real-world use informs what we improve, scale, reconsider or retire.

What?

The Hills of What

The challenge in digital has always been the sheer number of possible solutions, technologies, products and platforms. It’s easy to lose your way.

I turn complex customer and business problems into clear product direction and measurable outcomes. I connect strategy, customer insight, commercial priorities and technical realities.

My broad experience helps me navigate, working across disciplines so that every outcome is either achieved or learned from, and value is delivered.

About

The Islands of About

I was lucky enough to grow up on the Cornish coast, facing an open horizon, and that environment has shaped my thinking ever since. I have been building things since I was old enough to hold a screwdriver.

On a personal note, I love technology that delights whilst delivering results. If your device is up to it, dive in to the 3D version of this site and see if you can find dark mode, it’s hidden in the brightest place.

About this site

Credit where it is due: the 3D version of this site is built on Clearwater, an open-source water renderer by Aurélien at Lumaris, and would not exist in this form without it.
